vers libre 的词源

“free”这个词源自法语，自16世纪起在英语中以多种组合形式出现。它来自法语libre，而法语又源自拉丁语liber，意思是“自由的”（参见liberal (adj.)）。

在晚期古英语中，“作诗”或“写诗”的意思，到了15世纪中期，作为及物动词使用，意为“用诗歌表达或叙述”。这个词源自 verse（名词）。而“精通诗歌”或 well-versed（15世纪中期）则指的是“将内容优雅地写成诗”。可以与 verse（动词）进行比较。
